The story.
Château Haut-Bergeron is one of the oldest estates in Sauternes, dating back to 1756, and the Lamothe family has been devoted to making spectacular sweet wines for five generations. Now everyone has the story of "our vineyards are next to Yquem", and yes of course Haut-Bergeron's vineyards are next-door to Yquem, but the tale runs a bit deeper than that. The property was originally owned by the Marquis de Lur-Saluces himself, who in 1847 was invited by Tsar Nicholas I on a Russian hunting trip. The Marquis instructed workers not to harvest the vineyards while he was away, and on his return the grapes had botrytised... you know the rest.
The wines.
