The story.
Nuno Mira do Ó is one of Portugal's foremost viticulturalists and winemakers, making wines from the historic Dão region, Bucelas, Bairrada and Monção in the Minho. His legendary Druida wines hark back to the ancient Celtic druids, wise men and philosophers who sought spiritual equilibrium between man and nature, and it's in a similar spirit that Nuno aims to make his wine. Grapes for these and Vidente are grown by Nuno Matos at Quinta da Turquide in Silgueiros at an altitude of 500 metres on granite-rich soils and subject to a large temperature shifts as a result of the Serra do Caramulo from the west and Serra da Estrela from the south-east.
V Puro wines come from hilly Bairrada in Beira, on the other side of the Serra do Buçaco, between the mountains of Dão and the Atlantic Ocean. Nuno makes these in conjunction with João Soares of Messias, sourcing from traditional old vineyards on clay-limestone soils. Meanwhile SOU Alvarinho is a collaboration between Nuno and José Domingues of Quinta de Santiago and already up there among the country's finest whites.
