Bryan MacRobert moved to Rioja a decade ago and quickly established himself as one of the region’s most forward-thinking young winemakers, advocating for a fresher, elegant, and more authentic style grounded in great vineyards.
He is originally from South Africa, where he was Eben Sadie's assistant winemaker before making his own well-regarded Swartland wines. His small family cellar is in Logroño, and they are looking after an increasing array of small parcels of old vines across the region, often inaccessible to most machinery and ploughed by mule.
He eschews American oak, and sometimes eschews oak altogether. The ambition is to shine a light on the single varieties of Rioja and how they behave in different sites, in order better to celebrate this historic region’s terroir.
