Las Pedreras is the project of husband-and-wife winemaking team Bárbara Requejo, originally from Ribera del Duero, and Guzmán Sánchez, a native of Villanueva de Ávila in the Sierra de Gredos. Bárbara brings international winemaking experience from Château Haut-Brion, Pierre Péters, Peay Vineyards, Quartz Reef, and Soto-Manrique, while Guzmán, a trained chef, returned to Villanueva to open a restaurant and work his family’s organic vineyards.
Their first vintage was in 2021, made from 3 hectares of dry-farmed, old-vine Garnacha in Villanueva, centenarian Albillo Real, and Tempranillo from Bárbara’s home region. And the name Las Pedreras refers to Pico Las Pedreras, a mountain in the village planted with old-vine Garnacha."
