Sauternes

One of the oldest estates in Sauternes, dating back to 1756 – the Lamothe family has been devoted to making spectacular sweet wines here for five generations.

Many claim an origin story that involves Château d’Yquem, but Haut-Bergeron has a bona fide connection: the property was originally owned by the Marquis de Lur-Saluces himself, who in 1847 was invited by Tsar Nicholas I on a hunting trip.

The Marquis instructed the workers not to harvest while he was absent and on his return the grapes had botrytised… you know the rest.
