A potted history.
Porongurup might be a bit off-the-beaten-track, but it’s certainly one of Western Australia’s hidden gems. It’s here, just east of Mount Barker, that Guy Lyons makes stellar cool-climate wines. Fruit is sourced from his family’s Springview vineyard, where the vines were planted on ancient lateritic gravels in 1985. The vineyard faces the ocean and the grapes enjoy a long ripening season in what is otherwise a Mediterranean climate. Riesling is the sleeper hit here, so it’s no surprise that Guy makes an exquisite version, along with an exemplary, exhilarating oak-aged Chardonnay; both wines adorned with gorgeous Bella Kelly artworks.
