The story.
Otto Dal Zotto emigrated from Valdobbiadene in 1967 and like many of his compatriots settled down to farm in Victoria’s King Valley. Here in the foothills of the Victorian Alps, Otto originally farmed tobacco before turning to grapes in 1987 and from the 1990s he and his sons Michael and Christian became early pioneers of Italian varieties in Australia. None more avant-garde than the grape now curiously known in the EU as Glera, which they became the first to plant under its original and quite frankly its proper name in Australia in 1999. It remains their calling card, alongside other Italian varieties that are well-suited to this cooler-climate region a few hours drive north of Melbourne.
