Bruna

Liguria | Italy

Story

Pigato is Liguria’s calling card. A white grape genetically identical to Vermentino but stylistically distinct: more mineral and saline with aromas of wild herbs. And Bruna make the region’s finest Pigato, a grape Riccardo Bruna (pictured above) revived in the 1970s. His daughters Annamaria and Francesca have taken the reins, with Francesca’s husband Roberto as winemaker, and their organically farmed vineyards are in the Arroscia valley, dotted around the villages of Ranzo and Ortovero. They are also trying to revive the local Grenache clone, Granaccia, as well as making tiny amounts of sought-after pale and thin-skinned Rossese di Campochiesa.
